Our wine grapes, grown organically at the home ranch,
Fox Hill Vineyards, are certified by the
Oregon's Certified Organic Farmers. Organic farming requires a commitment to a whole program of cultural practices. Special equipment is used to till the soil, legumes are planted between the rows to provide nutrients, and other naturally mined minerals and amendments are added to the soil. This method of farming replaces the dependence on chemical fertilizers and the use of toxic fungicides and insecticides used in traditional cultural practices.
Our concern for the health and safety of our farm workers was the major reason we changed farming techniques 13 years ago. We have seen the wildlife increase on our ranch at a measurable rate. We believe the run-off from our land that goes into the Russian River is much cleaner than if pesticides and artificial fertilizers were used, and the water we collect from the watershed behind the ranch and store throughout the year is protected from chemicals leaching through the soils.
