The PC Design Guides and white papers provided here are for
engineers who build personal computers, expansion cards and
peripheral devices that will be used with Microsoft® Windows® 95,
Windows 98, Windows NT® version 4.0, Windows 2000,
and the next version of the Windows operating system, code-named
"Whistler."
The goal for these documents is to provide hardware design
guidelines that will result in the optimal user experience when
the hardware is used with the Windows family of operating
systems.

Windows Hardware Instrumentation Implementation Guidelines
(WHIIG) describes the design requirements and recommendations
for engineers who are building new systems, expansion cards, and
peripheral devices that use the management data infrastructure
of the Windows 2000 and Windows 98 operating systems
and future versions of these operating systems.
This guide is co-authored by Intel Corporation and Microsoft
Corporation. The requirements and recommendations in this guide
indicate features that the hardware industry should consider in
implementing custom hardware instrumentation on platforms
running the Windows family of operating systems.
